Overview
The Master of Engineering in Management gives graduates with an Engineering dee or a degree in another relevant subject a real insight into the business world. A fast-paced course, the MEM offers small group classes, intensive learning and a chance to use their technical skills in real-life situations.
As part of the course, students complete a six-month industry-based project. The MEM is endorsed by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) as a quality professional development course and was voted the ‘best and most comprehensive engineering management course in Australasia’ by ACEME (Australasian Conference of Engineering Management Educators).
Entry requirements
Normally the minimum requirement is a three-year bachelor’s degree from a New Zealand university, or a qualification or combination of qualifications considered to be equivalent.
If you gained your qualifications overseas, these will need to be assessed to make sure they are of an equivalent standard.
Qualification specific requirements
Candidates must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours or another degree with good grades in relevant subjects. The standard and relevance of previous studies are the main criteria for selection.
Students wishing to enrol in postgraduate study must have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of the prerequisite degree. This includes practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course and a first aid certificate.

You are also required to meet UC’s English language requirements.
Qualification structure and duration
The MEM consists of six courses and a project report.
Intending students must consult the Director of the Master of Engineering in Management Programme to determine which courses from ENMG601–609 will be offered in any one year and their subject matter.
Duration
The master’s must be completed within one year full-time. Studies commence at the beginning of Semester 1 (usually February) each year, however students can apply any time during the year preceding the year they wish to enrol.

Master of Engineering Studies
Overview
The Master of Engineering Studies caters for professional engineers seeking advanced technical training and is a taught master‘s degree with no thesis requirement. The MEngSt comprises a combination of 400 and 600-level courses that enables candidates to study a broad range of topics in their general area of expertise.
The MEngSt is offered by the Departments of Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
It may be awarded endorsed in:
*Civil Engineering
*Construction Management
*Earthquake Engineering
*Engineering Mathematics
*Fire Engineering
*Mechanical Engineering.
